IMO , not marrying or marrying has NOTHING to do with level of commitment and makes ZERO difference on well being of nation / community ---- a
comparision across countries.

Many times , many people take "not marrying" as a sign of great sacrifice and great commitment. And by same token, when asked "does marriage mean lesser commitment?" , they cant give clear answer as that answer will offend majority.
.
Across time , across countries --- there is NO correlation that unmarried men did lesser or more good that married ones. Many sects such Catholics etc take pride in the fact that their priests dont marry and thus cite it as proof of their commitment !! But Protestant priests marry and generally they are supposed to get married as well as have children !! And Protestants too do well --- as well as Catholics. In fact, protestants in general are economically better off and more educated than Catholics !! The difference has NOTHING to do with the religion IMO --- it is due to other reasons.

In India, , some sects allow priests to marry while most dont. And the Indian "panth" , which has been strongest and done best to protect India since its inception --- Sikhism --- allows marriages of all their religious figures from Guru to Gurudwara Prabandhak to Bedi to Granthi to Raagi etc (Bedi was once a title in Sikh --- meaning someone who knows Vedas i.e. somone who is very knowledgeable in all matters). . The Nihangs warriors often remain unmarried but there is NO strict rule that they must remain unmarried. They can marry, have children and they can also also opt out of Nihang ranks , which is very very rare. (please google on Nihang marry and "can nihang marry"). Nihangs often dont marry --- but that is pure choice.

In Muslims , priests MUST marry and MUST have children !!! An unmarried Maulvi is almost sure to lose his job !!

And same in Jewish till recently. Only recently, Jews have started tolerating unmarried rabbi.But it is rare.

In Catholics too, "priest should NOT marry" , but everyone else is required to marry and bear or adopt kids !! Even in Catholics, priests were allowed to marry till 300 AD and have kids. But marriage was discourage and only unmarried got promotions. And finally, in 300 AD , marriage was abolished for all priests by the then Catholic high council. The reason given was --- Jesus was unmarried , which itself is unverified and now unverifiable truth !! The novels like "Da Vince Code" say that Jesus was "married" and also had children !!! But such novels are more fairy tales. Many of the Apostles were married. But around 300 AD , Jesus was officially declared unmarried till death !! And so priests were asked to remain unmarried.

In fact, in Europe / USA , a person who doesnt marry and doesnt bear kids or doesnt adopt kids is consider anti-social, and such person will almost NEVER get any senior elected political post !!

In India, except priests , everyone is free to marry --- except --- except --- seniors in the "apolitical" organization named RSS !!! RSS has over 10000 unmarried full timers aka Pracharaks. The Pracharak is required to be unmarried , except in very rare cases. And only unmarried Pracharaks qualify for promotion and responsible assignments.

In India, there is belief in many voters that unmarried / childless person would be LESS dishonest that a married one !!! This is opposite of West. !!! In fact , unmarried / childless wont qualify for even corporate high posts --- exceptions exist. In West, unmarried / childless is NOT trustworthy !!!

And movie Interstellar also pushes this Western "protestant" belief that unmarried men can be more selfish and married with children will be LESS selfish !!! (pls google in Dr Mann Interstellar and see Interstellar again !!)

I for one, completely disagree that "remaining unmarried of childless is a high virtue" or any any proof or commitment or that unmarried / childless man or group of men would be any better or worse than married with / without children. In fact, if 1 crore men are told that "you will get promotion and recognition only if you remain unmarried", then well, some 1 lakh may decide to remain unmarried but that may be because they wanted promotion and recognition , not out of their wish. So in any case, not marrying isnt any "proof" of commitment as many tend to think.

In fact, I cite this as proof to show them how weak Catholic clergy (not Christianity) and RSS (not Hinduvaad) are . My statement is "allow your priests or paracharaks to marry, and see how within years or a few decades , the whole organization collapses like deck of cards" !! Let me repeat this statement. My claim is NOT that Christianity or Hinduvaad are weak. My claim is that Catholic clergy and RSS-middle\RSS-apex are hollow and weal. And proof is ---- let them allow their priests / pracharaks to marry , and whole house will collapse within years or few decades.

Anyway, it is an open and unsettled question. But those who think that "not marrying is a virtue and proof of commitment" should at least keep in mind two things ---
.
1. Only Catholics , Buddhists , some Hindu sects think that unmarried men would be better priests --- Muslims, Jews, Protestants, and many Indian panths such as Sikhism think just the opposite !!!
.
2. As for politicians, India is the ONLY country where voters think that unmarried / childless will be less dishonest than married / with-children. All countries except India think just the opposite for political posts --- they consider unmarried not trustworthy !!!

3. There is NO statistical data in your favor . In fact , more data against this notion than in favor.
