Orkut had had communities, in which one can give heading to a new thread he starts, and all threads' headings will appear as an index on the front page of the community. The orkut also gave search facility on thread headings in the community. This enabled participants in groups to have sensible discussion on a topic.

Facebook groups till 2011 had feature where thread starter can give heading to his thread. But after 2011, groups and pages no longer have headings. And till 2011, groups had index of all thread headings,.After 2011, the groups no longer have one index page with headings of all threads. And there are no headings to begin with.

The index communities with threads having headings in orkur enabled orkut participants to have meaningful discussion on topics in economics / politics etc. Whereas facebook group posts have no headfings, and groups have NO index page with list of all threads in the groups. So compared to facebook, orkut was better place to have meaningful disucssions.

Orkut died because Orkut allowed users to have name which need not be their own name. So people started putting funky labels like"Hey I am great" in place of their names. Facebook discourages that practyices and enocurages users to have their own name as name. Orkut never improved. Or rather, orkut never wanted to improve and wanted to pass social media market to FB !!

Orkut has one more plus point --- when a person-B visits profile of person-A, person-B will see the description of person-A as written by person-A on the profile page itself. In FB, this description is hidden in About -> detail and so almost invisible to a newcomer. In orkut, one can put IMPORTANT things that person-A wants ALL newcomers to see in his profile description and all newcomers will see. Whereas on FB, these important STATIC details will be visible only if newcomer clicks About -> Details which most newcomers wont. On FB, person-B who visits person-A will see cover picture, profile pictyre and the first post that person-A has posted, which need NOT be the most important post person-A wants to show !!!

Suffices to say --- Orkut was providing a METHOD to communicate proposals and opinions on economics, politics etc,. Whereas FB's user interface has ensured that there is no "easy" way for a person to communicate his proposals to newcomers.

Thats why, number of activists I got in orkut days 2005 to 2009, despite low pentration of internet per month was far far higher than new activists I am getting on FB per month despite much higher penetration of internet. Because when a newcomer visited by orkut profile, he could rapdily see what I have to say on the profile page itself and then see topics in my groups and see answers to his questions easily. On FB, when a newcomer comes,, he sees my cover picturem profile picture and my latest post which is on some dry current issue and so doesnt see the MOST important STATIC things I wish to say. The writer on FB writes, FB doesnt enable write to give heading to his own post, FB doesnt give index of all threads / headings, and so there is no way to see all threads posted or navigate across the various threads posted.

SOLUTION?

Solution I propose is FBCPBA. i.e. use cover picture to hold the link to a notes which has index to all the important status posts. Thats a lot of manual work. But there is no option in near future.
