why did Lalit Modi want cancer operation of his wife in Portugal ?

UK / US are far ahead in cancer treatments. So why would an Indian billionaire in London want his wife to get treated in Portugal and not in UK or USA?

Lalit Modi's was declared as wanted accused in India for serious tax frauds and financial frauds of the tune of 100s of crores of rupees. Now every big shot in cricket is a financial scamster , and so he was "relatively innocent" !!! But on paper, he was fugitive.

His passport was cancelled by GoI in 2011. Lalit Modi had appealed in India's Delhi High Court to restore his passport. If he loses the case, then pressure on UK Govt to extradite him to India would have increased.

Now Portugal too has extradition treaty with India. But Portugal court had made adverse comment against GoI because of delay in Abu Salem case. And hence, extradition from Portugal to India could have been averted !!!

Its another matter that Sushma Swaraj's lawyer daughter , who was lawyer of Lalit Modi. was able to convince the judge to restore passport of Lalit Modi. So threat of extradition from UK reduced because now his passport was valid. But say High Court had refused to restore the passport, Then chances of extradition would have increased. But if he was in Portugal , then his chances of extradition would have reduced because now Portugal courts have shown anti-extradition stand.

So may be, Mrs. Modi did have cancer, and may be she did need a surgery. I dont deny that. But why Portugal and why NOT better places like UK or USA? The reason is --- extradition from Portugal is difficult than extradition from US / UK .
