Lesser known info about Chegiz Khan
.
Many know many facts about Chengiz Khan (eg he killed over 50000 to 100,000 with his own sword and his own hands ; and his armies killed more than Militaries of WW2 could do , etc etc ).
.Here are some lesser known facts about him.
.
1. Chengiz Khan was NOT a muslim ---- he followed his local tribal religion. Many think that since he was "khan", he must have been Muslim. Well, the word "Khan" is Mongol word and NOT Arabic or even Persian. It became part of Persian vocabulary long after Chengiz Khan conquered Iran. If you see any Muslim King before 800 AD , you will rarely see word Khan in their names. In fact, even today, word Khan is rarely found in Arabic region,

2. He never killed engineers , technicians , skilled labor ---- when Chengin Khan would takeover an area, he would mostly kill all, except engineers and technicians. Other than engineers and technicians, all , such as wealth men, artists, unskilled , royals etc were put to death. Thats because engineers and technicians were useful in making weapons for exver expanding Mongol army

3. Mongol army was divided into group of 10-100 soldiers, and the commander of that segment was elected by these 10-100 soldiers !!! The leader of this leader about be appointed, but would be one of the person who has worked as commander.

4. Chengiz Khan did NOT appoint his heir. Upon his death, all sons and grand sons and great grand sons met, and elected the new Emperor of Mongol empire !!! Later , Mongol Empire was divided into 4 parts. This procedure that male blood relatives of Chengiz Khan would elect the Emperor was followed on for some 40-60 years after his death,

5. Each time Chengiz Khan defeated an enemy army, the king was never spared and killed. The fate of enemy soldiers depended on how bravely they fought. The enemy soldiers who were defeated easily or surrendered easily were slaughtered !! And those who fought bravely were defeated with difficulty were spared , if they were willing to become loyal to Chengiz Khan !!!

6. When Chengiz Khan would conquer an area, fate of people depended on how long they fought. Those who gave up easily were all slaughtered. and those who fought were sometimes spared !!!

7. When Chengiz Khan defeated a region, many of his generals were interested in enslaving the population and selling them as slaves. But Chengiz Khan allowed, but discouraged slavery. He believed that slavery would make his own citizens lazy and so slave trade etc was discouraged.

8. Every able bodied Mongol was required to serve in Army. Defaulters were seriously fined or executed.

9. If soldiers commits any crime against civilians, be Mongol or non-Mongol, punishments were 2 times to 4 times the normal punishments

10. The new recruits in Army were kept in front i.e. they faced much higher chances of death.

IMO, the most important reason why he won so many battles was not that he was strong, but other kingdoms had become weak because most kingdoms were discouraging universal military service. Most kings had made their own civilians weaponless and untrained. Whereas Chengiz Khan made Universal Military service compulsory. So Mogol had much much larger armies than most kings had. And so other kings lost.

Did war killed too many Mongol youth? IMO NO. War booties bring prosperity which makes food etc plentiful and so death rate due to hunger, malnutrition, diseases due to malnutrition etc reduce. That why, even though many many more Mongols died in war during Chengiz Khan's time, the population of Mongols increased.
