Arvindbhai kare to leelaa ... aur aam-aadmee kare to choree

The problem in Electricity theft as well as mis-metering exists and it is very serious. Due to lack of Right to Recall Electricity Regulator/Ministers and Jury System over Consumer Disputes, Electricity companies as well electricity thieves across India have gone rampant. The electricity companies give huge bribes and/or favors to Electricity Regulators and Ministers and get whatever laws and rulings they want. And they resolve disputes mostly in the favor of electricity company. In most cases, the corrupt regulators have made the complain filing procedure so complicated ad expensive that a common man cant even come to file a complain !! At the same time, corruption in electricity company at rank and file, from CEO to lineman, is rampant and the officers at rank and file promote theft. In some areas, industries openly steal electricity and hafta goes all the way to CEO and board members.

The solution I and my Recallists colleagues have been proposing is to enact Right to Recall over Electricity Minister, RTR Electricity Regulator and Jury System over Electricity Consumers' Disputes. This will make way for many technical steps such as double metering or triple metering where end user can install an additional meter inside his home to ensure that outside meter installed by electricity company is proper. And some neutral chosen third-party can also install an additional meter as a further check. This may need re-wiring, but costs are worth the money saved in theft as well as disputes. Further, with small technical innovations, a meter can be made which stores readings on hourly basis for 6 months and can send last 6 months' hourly readings wirelessly. This will further reduce theft as well as enable early detection of faults in meters. This may take a year after RTR/Jury come over Electricity Regulators, but it is doable and will drastically reduce disputes.

But why would IAC workers bother with all these legal-technical proposals? They want to copy Congress, BJP and CPM leaders and now just want cheap publicity. So they call MNC-paid-media, also call Congress-paid-media, hell with rule of law, make a connections themselves and get anti-incumbency votes so that Congress can win. So much for their tall idea and tall ideals.

All in all, they will get a big share of anti-incumbency votes which would have otherwise gone to BJP. And thus Arvind Gandhi (adopted son of Sonia Gandhi) will enable Congress to win.

The issue is not that corrupt BJP MLAs will lose. Hell with them all. The issue is --- precious time of real activists is also lost in time-pass activities. And while we do time-pass, China and America are NOT doing so much time-pass. And so their weapon industry is developing day by day. And one day, when weapons strength ratio of India to China or India to USA goes very low, that can be The End for good.

So solution I propose is that we should ask activists to focus on legal-technical solutions such as RTR Electricity Minister, RTR Electricity Regulator, Jury System over Electricity Disputes, Rationing of Electricity, Double-Triple Metering, improving meters rather than calling MNC-paid-media and making reality shows.
