What is the "FIRST" question that two complete STRANGER non-80G-activists should ask / answer to each other when they meet for the "first" time ?
.
IMO , the "first" question should be --- "what are first 5-7 causes / law-drafts are you are most interested in"? . And then see if there is a common cause between the two lists.
.
And if there is no common cause or common law-draft of interest, then IMO , working together isnt possible and will be waste of time and energy.
.
If there is a common cause, then they can proceed to how to work on the cause.
.
If they have no cause in common, then the only thing they should do next is to exchange information on how each is running his campaign to get his pet law-drafts passed. But not much joint activity is possible as their causes are different.
.
=========================
.
I broadly divide senior activists into two groups --- non-80G-activists and 80G-activists.
.
The 80G-activists are interested in grants, CSR funds etc to pay for their personal expenses, buy their personal homes etc. And they also want a lot of paidmedia publicity because publicity fetches more grants and gets them more junior activists and they also have an eye on political positions. The 80G-activists are actively seeking support of nefarious rich to pay the paidmediamen to project them as heroes. The elitemen fund them with a plan of getting good rate of return on the money they pay to the paidmediamen.
.
A junior activist may be non-80G-activist , but if the senior he is working for is an 80G-activist, then effects of that non-80G-activist will be same as 80G-activist
.
The non-80G-activist on the other hand have a job of their own, and dont depend on grants to run their expenses, their family, buy their house etc.
.
The non-80G-activists is committed to bring one or more specific change in India.
.
But all that does NOT mean that two non-80G-activists can work together, even though they are both elfish and committed to cause.
.
Two IMPORTANT reasons why non-80G-activists may not be able to work with each other are -- (a) variation in causes (b) influence of senior activist and paidmedia.
.
Many junior non-80G-activists are under influence of senior activists. And most senior activists are 80G-activists ---- working for grants , fame , working to waste away time of junior activists , political positions etc. The juniors believe that the senior activists they are working for are are committed non-80G-activists. How do we reduce this time-waste? I have discussed my proposed solution to this problem in chap-16 "Dear activist, does your leader oppose giving and explaining law-drafts?" inhttp://rahulmehta.com/301.htm . (pls also see chap-14, chap-15 and chap-17 ) .
.
But lets say two non-80G-activists are free from influence of paidmediamen and also free from influence of pseudo-activists.
.
Then also, mismatch of causes can be a serious reason why they may not be able to work together.
.
======
.
Let me repeat --- consider two non-80G-activists , who are both free from influence of paidmediamen and senior pseudo-activists.
.
The also , due to mismatch of causes' priority , they may not be able to work with each other.
.
Say one non-80G-activists wants to work to bring law-drafts that would reduce poverty, while other wants to bring law-drafts to reduce gohatya, while third wants to improve democracy. Here, all three can be selfless. But they have their causes. They are selfless for them, but "selfish for their causes" !!! And so they may not be able to work with each other on a common plan. Because each plan will have something which one activists consider far less important for his cuase.
.
So if two non-80G-activists, who are stranger to each other, meet , then IMO the FIRST thing they should become clear about is ---- what are the top 4-5 causes each one has.
.
And then see if there is any cause in common.
.
In most cases, sadly, they may not have any common cause. If the have a cause in common, then they can discuss further on what campaign plan each has, But if they have no causes in commons, then a common plan may not come.
.
In they have no cause in common , then the two non-80G-activists can exchange information on which campaign steps they are following and which campaign steps they are avoiding and why. They can exchange infomation on their opinions on efficiencies and inefficiency of the campaign steps. The campaign steps one is taking may be inapplicable for other , because campaign steps are often linked with law-drafts one is campaigning for. The exchange of information on campaign steps can be useful. But thats about it
.
A few things that IMO a non-80G-activist should avoid are --- (a) to "prove" that his cause is better than others' causes OR )b) that his cause s more basic OR (c) if his cause is served , then others' causes will automatically get served. Almost all activists consider their causes as most important or primary or "foundation" etc.
.
And a non-80G-activists may dislike to hear that other non-80G-activist isnt interested in his cause. After all, over 98% population in any country isnt interested in any cause. So as long as one is working on cause with no aim of grants , fame , electoral / administrative position etc, it is fine.
.
Summarizing : If two activist meet , then
.
1. The first thing activist should try to see if the other activist is non-80G-activist or an 80G-activist. A non-80G-activist should never waste time of 80G-activist. How to know if activist is 80G-activist? Please declare that you wish section-80G , section-35AC and tax exemption to CSR to be removed. If he doesnt support this proposal , then he is an 80G-activist. And pls dont waste his time.
.
2. If both activists are convinced , that both are non-80G-activists, then next set of steps are relevant,
.
3. The activists should inform each other what are the topmost 5 causes they have. Many times, the causes could be same, but phrased differently and many times, causes can be overlapping
.
4. If there are causes in common , then they can work together in those causes
.
5. If there are no causes in common, they should confine to exchange of information on campaign steps one takes, doesnt take, and why and why not for the campaign steps.
