Before 1967 , Guru Purnima was celebrated as defacto informal Teacher's Day, since time immemorial. S Radhakrishnan wanted to immortalize himself by ensuring that his birthday gets celebrated as national festival. And so he pulled strings to force apex-leaders to declare his birthday as Teacher;s Day , and thus weaken the practice of celbrating Guru Purnima as Teacher's Day.

The string Radhakrishnan pulled was --- Radhakrishnan knew that Subhashchandra Bose was alive in Russia. in late 1940s and in early 1950s and may be even after. He threatened to leak that secret,. And that was sufficient to force a;ll Congress-apex-leaders to fulfil his grand wish to become immortal !! And this dirty secret was the reason how he in in early 1950s had forced Jawahaherlal Ghazi to appoint him as VP or India and later appoint him as president of India.

S Radhakrishnan has made no contribution in area of IMPROVING teaching for poor and downtrodden. And while he wrote 1000s pof pages on Hinduism --- nowhere he disected the REAL problem --- why Hinduism has been shrinking since 500 AD, and why Islam Christianity are making advances. And he never ever proposed any cure by which Hinduism can be protected.

He made NO contribution in improving maths , science, engineering, medicine edication in India. He confined to useless subjects like Philosophy and insisted that Govt money should be wasted in teaching useless subjects like philosophy , sociology, political superstistion (aka political science) etc etc. All in all, maths, science, engineering and medicine education in India today is way way behind even China, forget West, And people like S Radhakrishnan are the reasons behind it.

If one talks about taking education to MASSES and COMMONS , then Jyotirao Phule has far far more contribution. In 1850s, .he started village level schools to teach all --- all ibcluding dalits, OBCs and girls !! He faced a lot of resistance from locals , and sometimes even faced violent resisttance. But despite risk to life and limb, he continued with his decision to take education to all castes , creeds and both genders.

Anyway, its time we re-bring the tradition of celbrating Teacher's Day on Guru Purnima. And S Radhakrishnan should be dismissed as bulls1tter and a blackmailer only/
