On reservation --- a MUST read information
.
Princely states, which were under British, started reservation as late as 1900s and 1880s !!
.
Why?
.
Because due to interview system, even the very well qualified SC / OBC / ST candidates were getting rejected for govt jobs as well as private jobs. And so educated SC, OBC etc were becoming supporters of Muslim Leagues and Missionaries. eg Jogeshwarnath Mandal. a dalit lawyer of then Bangladesh, who was merit ranker in his days, joined Muslim League because he was fed up of casteism of Congress leaders as well as upper caste Indian govt employees !!
.
To decrease the growing influence of Muslim League and Missionaries on Dalits / OBC etc, not just congress apex leaders, but princely states' kings also started introducing caste based reservation for dalits / obc etc
.
After Muslim Legue killed / adbucted lakhs of dalits / obcs, in 1946-1948, dalits and obcs stopped supporting muslim league. But their turning towards Missionaries continued and increased.
.
Shocked by growing influence of Missionaries in dalits / obc etc, Kings of Princely states as well as Congress leaders supported caste based reservation

This gyan is useful because EACH AND EVERY anti-reservation senior activist , supports interview system and other law-drafts that promote caste discrimination and nepotism. eg Ar Gandhi in 2008 opposed reservation (back then he was known as Ar Kejri) and he has always supported interview system and other law-drafts that promote casteism and nepotism.
.
So I request junior activists to oppose ALL senior activists who are promoting interview system and law-drafts like judge system that promote casteism and nepotism

A short history of quota: Story that predates Mandal
.
Princely states, even the Raj, had recognised the need to correct social disadvantage.
... Around the same time [ later 1800s ] , the Mysore state and princely states of Travancore and Kochi took note of popular support for the idea of reserving places in education, and the pressure from the backward communities and Dalits ensured they acted on it.
.
In 1919, the king of Mysore formed a committee headed by a judge to study the feasibility of reservations, and a plan was under way. In Kerala too, reservation for Ezhavas, Muslims, Other Backward Hindus, Latin Catholic and Anglo-Indians, and backward Christians were in effect for years before independence.
.
The state of Kolhapur introduced reservations in 1902 — for backward castes in education.
