What FORCED Congress Ministers , including LBS \ Sardar Patel etc in late 1940s to accept reservation for SC / ST ?

No, reason was NOT vote bank. The SC / St back then were too scattered to form any cohesive political force. Despite this, most Congress Ministers such as LBS . Sardar Patel etc agreed or forced themselves to accept caste based reservation. WHY?

Till 1920s, education in Dalits \ OBC was low. But by 1920s, education started increasing and they started applying for govt jobs and private jobs.

Almost in all cases, the interview takers should to fail them !!

This can be seen even today.Recruitment of High Court judges is via interview. In most states, such as Gujarat / Rajasthan , the interview taking HCjs will simply fail the Sc / ST / OBC candidate. Which is why, out of 28 High Court judges in Gujarat, not even 2-3 are SC \ ST \ OBC even thouugh over 25% lawyers are SC / ST / OBC.

Even for positions like clerks and peons, candidates with 10 years of experience in govt as temporary workers fail in interviews !!!.

The Missionaries were taking advantage of this situation and approaching a large nunber of educated dalit etc and telling them that "see , these upper caste interview takers etc will never let you rise. And teh reason Hinduism. So you should join Missionaries blah blah blah" . And it was working.

The Muslim mullahs were also approaching SC educated youth and SC leaders. And the effect was so powerful, that most SC leaders in Bangladesh areas , in early 1940s, actually sided with Muslim League.

To give an example , please google on "Jogendranath Mandal". He was an SC, and well off and very educated . He himself faced rampant discrimination from upper caste and saw that 100s of QUALIFIED SCs were getting rejected for jobs in private as well as govt. And so Jogendranath Mandal in early 1940s became supporter of Muslim League !!!

And many such well educated SCs were joing Missionaries.

After 1947, due to rampant violence in Pakistan and Bangladesh, educated SCs and SC leaders broke links with Maulvies across India. But many started coming close to Missionaries.

All in all, my point is --- due to covert defacto policy of the then upper caste individuals , that "fail all SCs in interview", a large nunber of educated SC / ST etc were turning to missionaries.

The Congress leaders of 1940s saw this as a huge threat,

The Congress leaders didnt have vision to fix this problem without sledgehammer approach of outright caste based reservation. And so , they created provision for caste based reservation in late 1940s. And please note --- most congress leaders of 1940s were trye patriots. There were traitors like Jawaherlal Ghazi, but most like Sardar Patel, LBS etc were true patriots. And almost all supported caste based reservation to deal with problem that even qualified SCs were failed in interviews, and Missionaries were gaining grounds due to that..

Now how is all this historical gyan relevant today?

I request all activists to note one thing ---- all SENIOR anti-reservation activists shamelessly oppose law-drafts to remove interview system, oppose law-drafts needed to reduce corruption and oppose law-drafts to reduce caste discrimination. One best example is Ar Gandhi. In 2006, Ar Gandhi (back then, he was known by his real name Ar Kejriwal) formed organization Youth for Equality which was against reservation. Back then, and even now, Ar Gandhi alias Ar Kej support interview system !!! And they oppose law-draft to reduce corruption and caste discrimination.

Also go thru speeches of ALL anti-reservation SENIOR activists of 1980, 1984, 1989, 1995 and now. ALL of them supported interview system !! And all of them opposed law-drafts needed to reduce corruption. They ALL insist on ONLY removing reservation, and insist on continuation of interview systems and other law-drafts that promote corruption and caste discrimination.

So if you support such SENIOR activists, then chances are high that

1. Caste based reservation will continue

2 OR, caste based reservation will end, but corruption, interviews, caste discrimination will go on.

The effect of (1) will be waste of time.

Effect of (2) will be worse --- the trend of 1940s will re-reappear. A large number of educated SC / ST / OBC youth will start moving towards missionaries.

The solution I propose is

1. The junior activists should ask ALL SENIOR activists they support to provide law-drafts to reduce corruption , caste discrimination and also what they think about interview system

2. One JUNIOR activists ask above questions, they will see that ALL anti-reservation SENIOR activists are 100% SELF-SEEKERS and have NO intention to fight against corruption and caset discrimination.

And that will enable Junior activists to seek the right track

1. Pls focus on law-drafts to reduce corruption, reduce caste discrimination and reduce caste based reservation --- i.e. ALL three.
